Realistically this movie does have a few problems, mainly with its pacing in the first half. But nothing really sours the experience, fortunately. The movie strikes a good balance between the human story and the monster fights and keeps a brisk pace for most of the films duration, and the characters aren't bad either (even the worst ones are either innocuous or absurdly funny). The monsters themselves are the best they have ever been in film, and are almost a general improvement from their original Toho versions. Unlike the 2014 Godzilla, which tries to emulate the feeling of existential terror of Godzilla himself *while* trying to blend dumb fun in there and fails at both by having boring characters and unnecessary cutaways from the fights, this one fully embraces the outrageous awesomeness of the Heisei films (and a little of Showa camp in there, too). Objectively speaking this is probably a 6.5-7.5/10 film, but i absolutely loved it. So I'm giving it a 9/10.
