I am really enjoying the "who done it" episodic style melding with the 'lone wolf' jaded cop homage. Strangely enough, the cherry on top, at least for me, is the Tropic Thunderesque style of writing/direction that is clearly aimed at those who work in the industry. Cinefiles will be delighted by the non-stop references and homages to classic cinema, but the real gold lies in the myriad of industry facing inside jokes; from stage hands to actors and producers to directors. I'm blown away by the fact that general public is loving this show!
P.S. I gave it 4 instead of 5 solely because of how often my immersion was broken due to, one of the many, hyperbolically intentional nods to the industry. While these are fun and funny, at least to me, there are times where it caused me to view the, otherwise dramatic, scene as slapstick/tongue in cheek. I hope/expect that this team will really hit their stride in season 2.
