I went into I Am a Killer on Netflix hoping for gripping, thought-provoking stories, but the last three seasons have been a disappointment. The episodes drag on, focusing on one prisoner for far too long and repeating the same details over and over. It feels like they’re stretching a limited story just to fill time, which makes the episodes feel unnecessarily slow and monotonous.
While I understand the challenge of setting up and filming these interviews in a prison setting, the show would benefit from a more concise approach. Instead of spending 50+ minutes on each person, they could introduce more prisoners per episode, allowing a greater range of perspectives and stories to come through. The atmosphere, which should feel intense or suspenseful, comes across as flat, and the cinematography doesn’t do much to help.
There’s potential here, but the current approach makes it a struggle to stay engaged. With a faster pace and a broader selection of interviews, I Am a Killer could bring more energy and insight, rather than leaving viewers bored and checking the clock.
