This is my second year of playing MLB The Show, and it might be the last year I play it. I know last year being my first year I would struggle and not be as good as some of the other players but I continued to play just because I wanted to feel like I was getting better at a game I really wanted to play. At some point I lost interest and couldnโt continue to play a game that felt broken in several ways.
Going to MLB 23 I was excited and looking forward to improved gameplay. But it feels as if nothing changed with the gameplay. And on top of that, they made 99s available day 1, which at first sounded amazing until your realize that majority of the 99s are behind packs (that never give you a 99, Iโve gotten 1 since the game came out), or you need to complete a task like go 12-0 in BR or other games. Donโt get me wrong I get that some cards should be reserved for those who can complete those game modes, but at what point did they forget about the casual player. As someone who doesnโt get the chance to play as much, it seems as if it is impossible to get new playable 99s. In majority of the programs, they make us grind hours, moments, missions to get XP with cards that wonโt even be on the main team we use, all for us to get just a 97 at the end of a program. There isnโt 1 program that will give you a 99 at the end of them (other than monthly programs which the 99s arenโt great either). They added set collections which allow us to get other cards, but you need to collect an extensive amount of cards to get the rewards, which just isnโt something a casual player like me can agree with. It feels like they made the game just for the players who have all the time in the world to play the game, and the ones who are casual like me are the ones who donโt get the chance to get those cards, basically making us think we should put money in the game to get a good team, which I refuse to do. And on top of all that, the gameplay hasnโt been fixed whatsoever, it feels like they dropped 99s day one in order for us to not notice they didnโt improve anything gameplay wise. If anything it feels worse. I will probably lose interest in this game very soon and I donโt see myself buying the game next year until I see other people playing and seeing how it plays. The game isnโt rewarding, hitting, pitching and fielding animations are horrible and they are a huge reason why games end up not going in hour favor because the game picks and chooses when it wants to give good results instead of giving the animations based on our actual input.
Bottom line, Iโm tired of playing a game that doesnโt reward good gameplay, doesnโt give the casual gamer a chance to get 99s, and doesnโt want to be consistent. You canโt beat a bad game and this one is bad.
