Not a good start, but what a great end, a modern re-telling of well known stories of the past.
Honestly, Episodes 1 & 2 with the character introductions and fragmented stories were not doing it for me. While the directing and acting was good, I felt it was missing something. But it did pick up pace during Episodes 3 & 4, and well, I am glad I stuck with this, because as Prometheus said- It's all coming together. And it did indeed, since Episode 5 onwards, it was exactly the kind of show I hoped it would be. The world setting with the cult-ish faith & the fate of those who defy it were a good ode to mythology as well as the modern world. The eerie prophecy and the little nods to important stories, like the fall of Troy were very well done.
The main downside would be probably the fact that it was lot of talk and less action. With the kind of power the Gods have, I wish they had allowed us to see some of that in action on a grand scale. They did set up the premise for Season 2, but well now that remains unknown.
In terms of our human-ish characters, I have mixed feelings about both Riddy & Orpheus, was heartbroken for Ari and don't have much of an impression on Canaeus. (Somehow he didn't seem to have enough of an impact, except for that crazy ending).
For the Gods, Jeff Goldblum and Janet McTeer were an absolute delight. Equal parts crazy, weird and horrifying, they brought those characters to life. Additional shoutout to our endearing Dionysus and his search for love & the unhinged Fates.
The whole scene of Zeus trying to kill the Fates made me snicker from start to end.
Overall, definitely worth a watch.
