I really related to the author's style, almost a blend of nonchalant and intense? I also enjoyed the depth of his knowledge about historical facts, eg. the physicists and scientists who were in various ways agents and authors to the development and first application in anger of The Bomb, the political and ballistic factors around the JFK assassination, etc. McCarthy's descriptions of nature and geography are visually compelling, and his plumbing of the deepest human psyche powerfully show the often entirely unpredictable facets of human nature.
