It was an entertaining movie but seemed very linear and “guessable”. There are plenty of things in the movie that are jumped straight into with no explanation. I was 30 minutes from finishing the movie and questioned why it seemed like nothing important had happened so far. Only certain aspects from the Until Dawn game are actually present in the movie. For those that have played the game these things are immediately noticeable such as Dr Hill, Joshua’s file, the wendigos, and other small details. However, this movie follows the “death loop” genre instead of the actual story. I felt that the deaths and gore were actually decent for what this movie was, but of course I couldn’t fully enjoy it after playing through the game multiple times. At the end of the movie we are shown the mansion that’s in the game. This may hint at a possible sequel in which the original story and characters may be used. Of course we’ll just have to hope the producers actually play the game next time and don’t start slapping logos on things. I’d highly recommend playing the actual game, as this movie does not accurately represent it at all.
