I can’t figure out how I missed this show since...2013? Holy Helena Bucket, folks, this is the one you’ve been waiting for since Breaking Bad ended its glorious run.
James Spader is maybe the most intoxicating criminal as Red Reddington that I’ve ever seen. I want to be Red. Is that bad? Maybe. But his class, his suits, his easy wit. Just baddass.
This show went completely off the rails in season three. I couldn’t understand how anyone could think this stuff up. And some have commented that it just kinda goes on and on and on, but this show is built that way. And I’m on the ride until the last station. The episodes “Ian Garvey” and “Ruin” tapped into everything that makes a thriller great.
I’m about to start season five and I’m thrilled to know that a season nine may be in the works.
One thing that is just stunning: 22 episodes per season? That’s EPIC. Jon Bokenkamp gets it that to have a show flow you gotta have EIPSODES. And the guest stars! Alan Alda as an utterly ruthless villain. Top that!
Have fun with this one, folks. I recommend five episodes per week for the perfect saturation dose.
More to come from me on this show. Enough cannot be said.
BRAVO!
