Gets judged really unfairly ALL THE TIME... this game introduced me to open world games. the story is fine for what the game is. The combat is fun, and even if the game is a little repetitive, I'm on my THIRD playthrough and still thoroughly enjoying it. So let's get to the things I love about it.
1) I love how the things you say and do affect the game's ending, letting you take a hero, dark or neutral path (You must choose your side at the end of the story for one of two endings). This was explored in games like Shadow The Hedgehog, but no game I've played pulls it off as good as Biomutant.
2) Now, USUALLY, for most games, side missions are a boring slog that you tend to ignore, aiming to just get the main story over with. I have no idea what it is, but Biomutant is just different. I wanted to do the side missions because they were just fun and properly rewarding. It's likely you'll get some pretty cool stuff if you're willing to take a detour.
3) I touched on this a little in the first point, but there are tons of NPCs that you can talk to throughout the open world. You usually get three choices for replies, and they all respond in a way that makes sense. I ended up getting pretty attached to the little critters (even though I tend to take the dark path) just because of how great the interactions feel.
4) I love the custom character feature. You make your base animal at the start, and then you can find some pretty sweet clothes to put on it. You'll likely finish the game looking awesome.
5) little things I enjoyed. Taming mounts, defeating bosses, finding secret areas, the "munster" hunter side missions, punching NPCs in the face, using my glider, and unlocking powers.
I only have a couple complaints, one being the fact that (I'm pretty sure) you can't go back to the world after completing the game, and a quite limiting swimming mechanic that's a bit annoying. Other than that this game is MEGA underrated and I definitely reccomend it.
