I adore this strange, sad little ghost story, but it's definitely not for everyone: It's ambiguous, slow, poetic (the VO is almost like haiku) and ambiguous (yes, I mentioned that twice).
Oz Perkins has said in interviews that his early films were not plot-driven and more essays on emotional states; he eschewed a clear 3-act narrative structure in favor of exploring a theme. This movie, The Blackcoat's Daughter, and Gretel & Hansel are definitely from that mold.
If that sounds like your thing, you might dig this...if it doesn't, you'll likely hate it.
If you can, watch it the way I first did: with all the lights off and the audio bumping through your home stereo system.
