I’m not sure why this series is getting bad reviews. It’s actually really wonderful. It’s dark and at first, I thought it was socially awkward and lacked depth of understanding. Upon the episodes that followed, I feel they were trying to depict an older generation mixing with the youth and conversation of today which I believe they’ve done very well.
I doubt that younger generations will be watching but for those of us who were SITC fans, it’s satisfying. The story is sad and for anyone who has experienced grief, rather accurate. The phases you go through, disbelief, anger, numbness, etc. all portrayed well by SJP.
Miranda’s storyline is also interesting. Mid life crisis, exploring sexuality later in life due to the feelings of mundanity and a lack of edge, all real. I’m enjoying this perspective and relate.
The loss of Stanford, Willie Garson during filming had to have been so hard. So far, the lack of attention to the loss on the show, I believe is due to how hard it was for everyone. I trust they will honor him well when the time is right.
Chris North’s sexual misconduct was unfortunate for the start of the series. However, I feel they’ve handled it with grace.
The only storyline I’m really not feeling is Charlottes. However, I feel that’s building a bit as well.
All in all, I absolutely love this show and I’m so happy it’s back! I just hope it keeps going, I do feel it is a voice I want to hear going forward. I hope they also continue to take hard subject matter and keep it real. Our world is very difficult these days, let’s not sugar coat it.
