Typically, when there's a lot of hype surrounding a movie, I tend to watch it with the assumption that it might be overrated. I go in expecting to be proven wrong. However, in the case of Barbie, it didn't manage to do that, I'm afraid. It simply happened to be a well-timed movie for a society that is deeply divided in terms of gender roles and traditions.
