This tale started off well, but about a third of the way through the characters descend into an alternate world, and so does the story. I realize the purpose is to evoke a fairy tale ethos though the writing style, but it doesn't work, and gets seriously cringy right through the middle. It is especially distasteful that the ultimate personal reward for the supposed hero is cash and a quickie.
I had hopes for the book at the start, but ultimately realized it's all been done before. So, if you want a quick read, go for it. But if you're expecting The Talisman rebooted, stay away.
