As I read Bill's recollections of his Grandfather and life on the farm, I realized how much my own Grandfather and life on the farm were very similar. So it was easy for me to walk along with Billy and Legie on these adventures.
Longfellow said it best at the end of the Village Blacksmith:
"Thanks, thanks to thee, my worthy friend,
For the lesson thou hast taught!
Thus, at the flaming forge of life
Our fortunes must be wrought;
Thus, on its sounding anvil shaped
Each burning deed and thought!"
This is not a book. It is a blessing.
