Detective Kim Walker, a very devout Christian has been assigned as a partner to another detective, whose last female partner was shot He doesn't not want another female partner, and he doesn't believe. As their crime fighting relationship evolves he begins to admire her and her young son. She soon has more reasons to believe her husband didn't commit suicide years ago. As a new piece of information surfaces, she is determined to exonerate her husband while trying to keep her son safe. Her partner finds himself more involved with her and her son as their faith is tested time after time.

Very good book. Amy arrives at her father's ranch after she learns that he has been injured. She's been away for five years. The ranch holds bitter memories for her and after her father's death, she is determined to sell the ranch. She wants nothing further to do with it. The ranch's foreman had been homeless and living wherever he could find a place to sleep. Amy goes back and forth to her job. Seems she must stay there 3 months. She's not too sure about the foreman, who continues to get her interested in the ranch. Slowly things begin to change between them. The ranch has a loan coming due and there is no money for it. They have guests coming as part of a new direction for the ranch. Amy's thoughts go back and forth about the man, the sale of the ranch. Complications develop when his old girlfriend shows up and a realtor brings a buyer.
