Next to classic “The Day The Earth Stood Still” (1951) this is one of the finest Sci Fi movies ever made. In addition to the marvelous special effects and suspense-filled storyline this movie has heart—excellent performances by the cast that makes you care about the characters and the outcome. I have shown this movie in science fiction writing classes to today’s usually skeptical middle school students bred on technology way beyond the ‘50’s and to them it still holds up. The other later remake with Tom Cruise was so bad it was embarrassing.

This was a great “popcorn” movie, with a touch of July 4 patriotism

With the exemption of dated automobiles , clothing styles, etc. this film is a masterpiece . Its message about the need for world peace and cooperation between nations during the onset of the atomic age still stands the test of time with one frightening wake-up call—- the world has not moved one step forward towards this goal since 1951! And the threat of the power of artificial intelligence in the wrong hands mirrors the threat of the atomic age. We need another visit from Klaatu to remind us that the earth is just one planet in a vast universe. Carol Sandberg Howe

A wonderful movie! Wonderful acting! Beautiful scenery! It makes you feel young again and want to visit Rome and Venice!

I never get tired of watching it. It is a gift for the ages. Every generation should get a chance to see it—at least once. Carol Howe
