It's apparent from reading some of the 1 star reviews that there are abunch of uncultured, ignorant swine amongst us. I read one review where someone said they couldn't understand the plot. What? It's a historical revenge epic, ever heard of hamlet? Or if that's too much for you, how about the lion king? Historical epics don't have to be Braveheart or gladiator, they can have a bit more weirdness for lack of a better word. I have never left a movie review, but was dumbfounded enough by the lack of appreciation for this movie that I just had to. I enjoy all types of films for what they are. Some movies have entertainment value that doesn't really lean into what some might call high cinema and they have tons of rewatch value. The summer blockbuster type, or some old school feel good movie like the goonies. On the other side of the coin you have something like no country for old men. It's a masterpiece, but it's heavy and can be bleak and emotionally draining, so masterpiece, but not something I'm gonna watch over and over. The last duel is another recent medieval drama people should see. Heavy, not something I'm gonna watch over and over, but film making at its finest. The North man will likely receive some form of award nomination, and for good reason. Truly fantastic film.
