The first episode was strong and gripping. Very much what I would have expected from a purist take on Bram Stokers vision. It was uncomfortably scary. The tension between Harker and the count was what really got me. You can really feel a sense of helplessness which reminded me a lot of the novel. I actually surprisingly liked gender swapped Van Helsing. But that's about all that was good about this show. Everything from episode 2 onward was just garbage.
To no surprise, the further this show drifted from Stokers vision. The worse it became. Fair enough some might want a fresh take, but man. It's so obvious that these directors are working with their own material because this show just becomes so predictably contrived. If you're a fan of smart horror and Bram Stokers novel, you will like episode one. 8/10
But If you're a fan of lame and predictable entertainment. Episode 2 and 3 are for you.
