This is a review of the play not the book. I lasted until the interval, it felt like two separate pieces of work bolted together. The songs were not strong enough to stand up on their own and they added nothing to the narrative of the play and interrupted any momentum it built up. Nice try, and there is. Much better shorter piece in there. It needs considerable tightening up.
