Most everyone I know aren't the type of people to get into spirited discussions with about ambient music - it just simply isn't their thing and I hardly blame them for having zero interest in it. I myself don't even really understand why it is that I've grown to enjoy it so much; it certainly seems boring in comparison to almost all other forms of music and is hardly "accessible" and enjoyable to most people who would just happen upon it. This album is very different while at the same time no different. To most people, it's not only unremarkable but crosses the line into absurd pretentiousness - some douche i met at a party once had this to say about it: "this new yorker who thinks he's a composer or sumthin makes an entire album of six different 5 second loops all getting quieter til they're gone? Wow buddy big frickin deal! AND THEN hipsters the world over praise him and give him money for it?! I'm in the wrong line of work!" He wasn't a person who's opinion was worth taking seriously (are any of us?) but i wouldn't argue with him as he's not far from the general consensus : folks just don't have the ear or the time for the "artsy-fartsy shtuff" but others like myself see hear and feel deeply moved by this type of music. It is both eerie and monolithic, it is a significant cornerstone that's considered Canon among ambient music fans and has almost become a household name familiar as Brian Eno is to the rest of the entire genre he helped define. I don't enjoy the Disintegration Loops because I read an article in Pitchfork telling me to. I enjoy it because I have loved ambient music since late childhood and there is something indescribably comforting to me contained in the sounds of these odd faintly nostalgic loops - they've served as lullabies for me in the most difficult times of my life and will remain a source of comfort and resonance for me the remainder of my life. We are inextricably linked. 5 out of 5 stars 🌟 5 bags of popcorn 🍿5 thumbs way up for this album. If I could I would buy Basinski a beer sometime.

Just as the music itself, I am at a complete loss of words after having heard this. While this type of ambient music, indulgent as I find it, may likely bore casual listeners to death if not failing to get their attention at all. It's not approachable by the vast majority of listeners - perhaps that's why Tim Heckers meticulously crafted soundscapes never get old, even after repeated listening I always hear a welcome sense of unfamiliarity. He's like equal parts Brian Eno, Aphex Twin and Lichens.

I would do terrible, depraved things to get my hands on a copy of this book. So crushing to find out its long out of print and super expensive. I always discover things at least 10 years too late.

this album begs the listeners their patience as it cuts no corners but at times you'll find yourself wipe away tears filled with gratitude for allowing it to tell us its full story. Incredible, Moving definining achievement for this artist and the entire genre they helped inspire. 10/10

Tim never disappoints. This is an incredibly immersive album despite an overall theme sounding incredibly discordant, jagged... at times outright uncomfortable. Hecker keeps these wild forces in check through his keen sonic intuition and the result is an uncompromisingly unique album from an artist to which there exists simply no parallelsimilar.

this album encompasses such an incredible breadth of poignant themes, taking great care to never get too cozy on a backburner - an album that fills the large shoes kendrick seems to effortlessly lace up, every time, with precision and lyrical expertise . I'm not much for "rap", but there's a reason this young man from Compton has amassed the accolades that he has. He's quite possibly the most gifted in the game of this generation. a legend privilege watching his discography grow.

Canon as always. Anything I can say would be a disservice, for I am a mere mortal whereas RDJ surely eclipses Christ.
