This show is an accurate and acute look at Mormon life in the 80’s and 90’s. I grew up in this religion and the interactions and relationships between church members and families are portrayed quite accurately. Shockingly accurate in some instances, to the point where I felt extremely uncomfortable with the mirror that was being held up to this cloistered community. The church and its beliefs make you feel that if you are a high member of your neighborhood or community, that you are special to god, an elect individual in a world of sin. You feel like the top one percent of the top one percent of the world. The stark reality is that your beliefs rarely extend to the real world where you don’t help anyone less fortunate without an audience, and you continually hate any and every marginalized group around you. The LDS church is so incredibly separate from Christs teachings, that it becomes laughable on screen. Great view of LDS culture and it’s beliefs. I love this show. 5/5 stars for sure. Must watch. I hope they make a show about the CES letters next.
