It was an earlier movie by Karthik Subburaj that propelled me into watching movies with newbie directors/non-star cast. After watching movies like C/O kancherapalam, Sethaalum aayiram pon, I was truly disappointed watching this movie.
Is no one going to call out that "twiggy" Dhanush may be a great mass-grade star, but is no one's idea of a thug or a gangster? A thin guy like that can never be cocky/arrogant/sinister by anyone's standard. In his efforts to come across as all of these, Dhanush pathetically fails. He only appears shallow and downright silly at times - take that scene where he walks into the den of the opposing camp just after killing one of their leads! And I honestly wonder how the opposing don is so indulgent and quick to benevolently forgive Dhanush for having killed a senior leader!
Now for the romance bit- how can Tamils still swallow that someone can drool and stalk an obviously uninterested girl and still win her? How do you fall in love without even exchanging a word? That may be my opinion, but the whole romancing in the movie just seemed so improbable and disjointed.
Then of course, in this theatre of the absurd,a major conspiracy and plotting happens when they are all dancing/grieving over the death of a brother! How can this even be acceptable to anyone with a logical bone. I only kept watching this movie in the hope that there may be a twist like Jigirathanda.
Not withstanding all this there was such a tremendous let down to see a director of this calibre descend to such absurd depths to cater to the "masses"! Movie making is an art form that displays creativity while it entertains. I felt Karthik Subburaj has prostituted himself in this effort and debased his art.
In one word "a Mokka movie"!
