Nicely portrayed a deeply patriarchal and castist Indian village where a woman is always socially measured by her ability to bring forth children, not by her fruitfulness in the so-called men's field. This needs to be studied as a contemporary Indian novel, not only for the sake of literature but for the sake of our (Indian) future.
