I was so disappointed in the show. It had none of the charm of the book. What happened to the Parker foundation? What happened to the chemistry between Calvin and Elizabeth? Six-thirty's name origins (and his role in general)? Who the heck is this Harriet in the show? There was a whole specific "Supper at Six" episode based off of Harriet's experience with domestic violence. They overplayed Elizabeth's trauma and took away her entire identity as a direct and confident woman. A lab tech??? People, she was a CHEMIST!
None of the scummy characters were as they were supposed to be. Miss Frask was way nicer in the show than she was in the book (until the end). Her's and Dr. Donatti's relationship (a major catalyst for events in her life) was far too tame.
They add in events that never happened in the book. And to be honest, didn't add to the story at all.
I understand the importance of adapting stories for on-screen purposes, but this wasn't even the same story. It was honestly not even that good sans the book.
I don't think Brie Larson ate with this role. The way that she talked while using scientific jargon felt disingenuous or like she was reading it versus part of her natural vernacular. Just so robotic instead of matter-of-fact.
Just like... What was the thought processes here? The book was too feminist? Too uncomfortable for men to see on screen? Like, why?
