B. Bippy (Desertwriter)

I had always loved the 1999 "Ripley" movie with Matt Damon. But this new version by Zaillian is better. Dark, moody, suspenseful, tense. Superior photography in b&w, save for one tiny scene ( can you spot it?). The acting is top-notch. And "Lucio" the cat steals the show.

I'm now on episode 6. It's a great series, the acting, photography and scenery are fantastic. I've already read "Over the Edge of the World" the book version. Such an epic tale! A miracle they made it back to Spain! The film seems to follow the book though it doesn't claim to. I like history and swashbucklers, so this is just my cup of tea. Also, it's great to see European actors do their thing. They're all superb. Magellan's wife is lovely. The film has all manner of audio and subtitles. Go see it!
