I was a great fan of Branagh's Wallander. I regard this "origin story" from 2020 as entirely plausible and consistent with the character personified by Branagh, despite the "time shift" that - in effect - means that the "mature Wallander" would be younger than himself as a youth. However, the point is how Kuirt processes events. Even though contemporary Sweden differs from the Sweden of yesteryear - emotional content, character development and suspense are dramatic elements that remain constants.
