Why are all of the 1 star reviews posted just a copy-pasted rant? Republicans at it again! Google should really have a way to regulate this.
I liked this movie. I didn't find it to be super revolutionary in its message or themes, and at times the script made me cringe a little, but overall it was a pretty well-executed and very well-acted film about a slightly exaggerated doomsday brought about by terrorism and government failure.
The 1-star copy-pasted review makes me laugh, too, because when the writer is expressing their frustration with the movie it becomes clear that they did not understand the movie's conclusion. This conclusion makes it clear that the doomsday events have come about due to a calculated terrorist attack that focused on destabilizing the US government and then allowing it to destroy itself via power in the hands of individuals that then would turn on each other and cause a messy civil war. It is not the most creative or satisfying explanation, but it is one, and the 1-star commenter did not seem to catch that.
Mahershala Ali, Myha'la Herroid, and Julia Roberts give incredible performances in this film, even when the script is at times lacking or somewhat cheesy. The suspense will make your stomach churn at points and other times let you down with dissatisfying climaxes. Overall, it's a pretty interesting end-of-the-world creative with a few gripping twists and turns, gripping theatrical performances, and a semi-satisfying conclusion. I would give it a 3.5 or 3.75 rating if Google allowed semi points, but it doesn't, and so the film is closer to a 4 star rating than a three, though I wouldn't prefer to give it a full four stars.
