The only cinematic production that I've seen so far that closely follows the book. Stewart was great as Ahab; the actors that played Ishmael, Starbuck, Stubb, Flask, Pip and the crew were equally as good, and of course, Peck delivered a perfect performance as Father Mapple. The film tells the story of a man's relentless chase to capture the white beast that took his leg and stole his soul. The film leaves out the rather encyclopedic verbose and outdated references on whales and the quarantined ship, but other than that I think it follows it very strongly. If you like the book, check out a book I have authored called; The Eldest Son: The Juliano Journals on Amazon.
