It was written a few years before our current political situation here in America 2025; however, the themes within in made it seem as though it was authored last week or yesterday. The parallels of classism, racism, and corruption, in our present climate and in the fictional story are readily juxtaposed. While difficult and suspenseful to read at times, I recommend it highly.

I had mixed feelings about the book. On one hand, I thought the story was intriguing; however, I became quite annoyed by the actions of some of the characters. (At times I thought, “Oh, get over yourself; move on!”) I was not enthused by the ending. Perhaps it’s just me, but I thought that Ox should have died protecting those he loved. The actual ending, to me, resembled the movie Twilight.

The story, I thought, was very tender and sweet; the two main characters, Luke and Kinsley, were clearly meant to be together. There were, though, aspects that I felt were unlikely to have occurred. Notwithstanding, I enjoyed reading it - this one and its prequel - and am always glad to see happy endings.

The storyline, although at times a bit difficult for me to follow, was nevertheless enticing. As with many good books (and I love to read), there were the compulsive twists and surprises.
