This is Mae Martin's offering of drama television. It is a huge failure. Hopefully this marks the end of their career. The acting is disaterous, Mae can barely fathom the emotion they are trying to act. The supporting cast are poor. The plot is just a jumbled mess of clichéd thriller parts, smashed together with mostly loose ends. The soundtrack is poor. The cinematography is nightmarish, half of the mid-shot backgrounds are blurred to within an inch of their life. Anytime characters walk it looks like they're pretending to walk in slow motion on a treadmill. The constant jumps from dark to light is irritating. Don't even bother - this is a horrendous show and should be a lesson of what never to do when making a Netflix, straight to stream, quick-buck, TV show.

As someone who has not read the book, but taught extracts of it, the film is largely underwhelming. It addresses the key 'plot points' of the book, but misses deeper themes with shallow screenwriting. The film's feels much longer than 2 hours, it is unnecessarily drawn out by clichéd rom-com elements and the inclusion of elements from the book, which in a film adaptation, should be left out. The cast do a good job of making it bearable to watch. Largely this film is poorly arranged, adapted and paced. Anyone with the time could make a far better version by simply chopping up this one.
