The film was failed to be capture my attention for three reasons. 1. The villain, if Palpatine wasn't developed. Had i not seen 4, 5 & 6 i would have had no context. If the villain is Ren, he was completely unconvincing. 2. Reducing the victory down to destroying a single ship was just lazy story writing. 3. Too many characters were involved with not enough character development. Its far easier to care about three well developed characters than a dozen poorly developed characters. Lastly, I'm trying to rate this without referring back to the original three as a standard. On its own, or as a trilogy, this film lacks imagination and a decent story.
