Immediately after finishing Ragnarok, I decided to play the og god of war (it’d been about 13 years). While I love the original trilogy and the nostalgia I feel while playing, there’s just something missing that’s hard to explain. By saying that I mean the developers did such phenomenal job revamping this series that it’s *almost* hard to go back to the previous games. There’s just such a huge leap in character development, emotion, gameplay, and world building… I feel truly blessed to be able to experience it as a massive fan of the series
Ragnarok was a journey to say the least. Be it the story, the gameplay, the boss battles, or the world itself, I was continually impressed and drawn into what it had to offer. I did every side quest, searched every nook and cranny, and read through all the lore. At the end, I was left hungry for more and that’s not something I can say about most games. Some people may not like certain aspects of parts of this game (you know what I’m talking about if you’ve played it), but I personally felt like these sections were refreshing and added to the story.
The graphics are amazing on PS5 and I was constantly impressed by the attention to detail on character models, environments, and objects in the world. My only complaints were that there were a few bugs I ran into (that could be easily fixed with a patch) and I wish that they had made some of the realms bigger. For example, a few of them are very large places to explore while others are basically one area. With that in mind, I think I liked 2018 GoW better for it’s environments but Ragnarok better for its story. Both games are 10/10 for me personally and I really, really hope they make this new God of War a trilogy.
If you like riveting combat, intriguing story, amazing graphics, and own a PlayStation, you should absolutely buy this game.
PS : the soundtrack is elite tier stuff
