There was a fantastic cast in this film, but the actors and actresses, themselves, hardly remedy the fact they were given a horrible script so fixed with abysmal storytelling and boring characters (inspired by fantastic real people who have been dishonored by this atrocity). The motivations for the characters and their actions are beyond bland and foolish, respectively. It empowers a few overdone tropes in film: 'We're coming with you.', 'We're going to k*ll you ... but not yet.", and, of course, the bleeding damsel-in-distress. There's another trope in the movie that hurt my very soul in a bad way, but that would be spoiling it. Don't worry about it because it's not even worth looking into and Star Wars did it better in the 80s when it was the 80s. In truth, the revenge trope and leading theme of the story doesn't even consider or make use of Chekhov's gun, which makes me wonder why a certain object wasn't used in the film despite how prominently it's featured, at least, twice. The Harder They Fall is a plus two hour film that should have been wrapped up in one hour with its pointless, drawn out pacing. This is another one of those cases where I loved trailer, but absolutely despised the movie itself. Black westerns are so uncommon and I am very disappointed that this one fell flat on its face for all the appeal it had.
