I remember when The Final Cut was released and I wasn't a great fan of the effort. As my son became more interested in branching his musical tastes we listed to the entire catalogue culminating with the vinyl version of The Final Cut. What I didn't understand upon it's release I understand now. Many have decided the album as a Waters solo effort with the band simply backing him. To the contrary, The Wall was also in this same vein and The Final Cut is a continuation of that story reliving the subject matter and subsequent fallout to date. Surely it is personal of Waters and very political but so was Animals for that matter, just less abstract. The Final Cut was a fitting end to the Waters era. And rightly so. It's some of their best work and the more I listen, the more I love this effort.
