This is one of the best plays by Galsworthy. The play deals with the conflict between the labour and the owner. As no one wants to yield, there is acute suffering and mental trauma. Ultimately the play ends with a compromise that was proposed before the commencement of the strike.
However, Galsworthy's dialogues are powerful and penetrating. He uses a variety of small sentences in chime with the colloquial style and the cogent lengthy dialogues by Anthony and Roberts to make their points of view more clear.
The insight the playwright has into the problems of the industry is also remarkable. In brief, the play is worth reading.
