**Movie Review: "Auron Main Kya Damm Tha"**
**Starring**: Ajay Devgan, Tabassum Fatima (Tabu)
**Rating**: ⭐ 1/10
“Auron Main Kya Damm Tha” brings together a small-town love story set in the chawls of Mumbai, but it ends up being an overdrawn and underwhelming narrative. The premise starts off simple: a boy and a girl fall in love, share sweet moments, and sing songs together, but things take a dark turn when the girl is kidnapped. As a plot twist, the girl accidentally kills two of her kidnappers, and the boy, to save her, takes the blame and spends 23 years in jail. Upon his release, the story attempts to unravel the events of the past, but unfortunately, it does so with little impact and poor storytelling.
Major Flaws in the Movie:
1. Unnecessary Subplots: A significant amount of screen time is wasted on the actor creating a fake passport and traveling to Dubai. This entire subplot adds no value to the core storyline and leaves the audience questioning its relevance.
2. Irrelevant Dubai Gangster Scene: The movie introduces a gangster residing in Dubai, which seems promising for the plot, but ultimately, nothing substantial comes from this addition, making it feel like a pointless distraction.
3. Repetitive Trauma : The kidnapping and attempted rape scene is shown repeatedly—three times, covering almost 20% of the film. This not only drags the movie unnecessarily but also makes it uncomfortable for the audience without adding any new perspective to the narrative.
Suggestions for Improvement:
1. Jimmy Shergill's Role : The character played by Jimmy Shergill (the actress's husband) could have had a more impactful role. For example, portraying him as a CBI officer investigating Ajay Devgan’s connection to the Dubai gangster would have added depth to the story and a gripping chase element.
2. More Meaningful Character Development : It would have been more compelling if Ajay Devgan’s character evolved into a gangster in Dubai after serving his time, adding a layer of redemption or transformation to his character arc.
3. Business Plot-line : During the time Ajay Devgan's character was in jail, a subplot showing him and Tabu building a business empire could have given an emotional and financial growth angle, adding substance to the post-jail reunion.
Overall Assessment:
- Production : Disappointingly executed, with subpar quality and weak transitions.
- Direction : Lacking vision and failing to tie the plot together effectively.
- Storyline : The weakest link in the film, with incoherent sequences and forced plot elements.
- Ajay Devgan's Performance : Predictable and similar to his recent roles ( Drishyam , Bhola ) with nothing fresh to offer.
- Tabu’s Role : Limited screen presence, which doesn't allow her acting prowess to shine through.
- **Jimmy Shergill’s Performance**: One of the few saving graces, as he delivers a solid performance despite the lack of a well-rounded character.
In summary, "Auron Main Kya Damm Tha" fails to engage and ends up being an unsatisfactory watch. The lack of coherent storytelling and missed opportunities to explore deeper themes result in a movie that's both unremarkable and forgettable.
Final Verdict : It's a hard pass, with an overall rating of 1 out of 10 stars.
