The fight scences were good, and all in all the story had merit, but there were some issues with it. At some points, it felt like a traditional martial arts film, before suddenly flipping into a G.I joe movie with no explanation. The main character didn't seem at all suprised to find out that magic was a real thing. I'd say if it was a stand alone movie it would be 4 stars, but as it is a GI joe movie, i have to demote it. But the acting was great, and they did a good job of making it dangerous, yet still kid friendly. I guess my main concern with it was the purpose of the movie. Are they planning to give origin movies to all of the joes, or is this a wolverine x men origins situation? I get this is a reboot from the 2009 and 2013 joe movies, but they gave snake eyes a perfectly fine origin already. Plus, the movie didn't actually explain where he learned karate or kung fu. At one point in the film he was a kid with no fihhting abilites, and then he was skilled enough to fight off 100 yakuza thugs. It was oddly paced, but thats made up for by likeable characters. All in all, an ok movie. I wouldn't bother seeing it in cinemas, but be sure to watch it on dvd or streaming when it comes out.
