Andrei Tarkovsky poetically paints the nightmarish life of a 12-year-old boy orphaned by war. Through Tarkovsky's eyes, we see how life an innocent teenager was turned into a hell by war. The boy no longer wants to be either a teenager or even lives. The movie is full of fine and delicate scenes even in the throes of war.
