Such a beautiful film. I was looking forward to watching it, in hopes of David Corneswet portraying a comic-accurate Superman, who values humanity and is a beacon of hope for everyone. Not to say that Cavill's Superman is not good, he just isn't the bright, symbol of hope that Superman is in the comics.
I was not disappointed! Not only did David give Superman a personality, but Clark Kent was his own character as well. They were two separate people. I did not get the feeling that Clark was an after thought. He was well-written and Superman himself was flawed, as everyone is. I love that, even though he is a superhero, Gunn gave us a Superman that the audience can truly connect with.
Lois' character was slightly 2D, I'd have liked for her to have more personality, but that is no fault of Rachel's. I think maybe the writers didn't pay her enough attention. Lex Luther was SO well-written. Nicholas Hoult is a great actor, I truly disliked Lex, which goes to show how well he embodied the character. Jimmy was great! Although he wasn't a main character, Skyler Gisondo definitely understood the assignment.
The story was well-thought out, however the pacing wasn't fantastic. It did feel a bit rushed towards the end, but it was very entertaining and touching. There were plot twists and moments that had me biting my nails. The colours were lovely and vivid - very refreshing compared to the dark, grungy Snyder Superman movies.
I loved Krypto! No complaints there.
Overall, 9/10. If you have doubts because you're so used to Henry Cavill as Superman and are not a fan of change, I implore you to put that aside and watch this movie. It'll truly brighten your day and add that extra bit of positivity to your life that you might be needing!
