A beautifully shot retelling of Odysseus’s return to Ithaca. Stripping back to story to show the ravages of war and its impact on the old warrior was a moving testament to the devastating mental and physical toil of warfare. The performances of Fiennes and Binoche were excellent, in particular Bionche’s restrained fear amongst her suitors for both herself and her son, Telemachus was gripping. Her furious release and anger at nearly all the men in the performance rammed home the plight of women in the Archaic period and now in time of trial and war.
