The film uses the Kellogg and Post rivalry as the jumping off point for a satirical look at the 50’s and 60’s. From Nikita Khrushchev to the space race to the evil white powder which is literally sugar in the film, it mostly hits the mark. Maybe, those critics who aren’t old enough to have experienced the events don’t get it. Too bad. It’s a worthwhile film.

I find the whole matchmaking process against the background, caste system, religion and culture of India to be fascinating. The movement between India and clients in London, Miami, New York etc and the continuing power of the Indian culture over her clients and their parents while out of synch with our American values is quaint and reassuringly old fashioned. The interviews with those who were matched and went on to long term successful marriages reveals that the key is that they all have a sense of humor.
