I have read the book and watched the Albert Finney movie, both of which are true masterpieces. I looked forward to this PBS series. What a horrible disappointment! The writers have ruined the text of a great English novel with inappropriate and unnecessary changes. The acting is weak and boring. I hope that PBS will trash this series because it is trash. It should never be shown again as "Masterpiece Theatre". It is definitely not a masterpiece.
