I found the beginning captivating and a page turner. The captivation dwindled considerably by the half way point, from then on, I had to force myself to get to the end. As loads of readers have said in their review, Avery's age was cast completely inaccurately (I have a child age 9 and know loads of kids that age) and should have been 12 or 13. Even so, the plot was weak and the ending dull. It is genuinely one of the worst books (well, the last half anyway) that I've ever read. I feel a more imaginative writer with better writing skills could have taken the basic plot and transformed the story into a riviting one. It had potential at the start, which only served to disappoint from the middle to the end.
