Intriguing meditation on the inheritance of power and the need to preserve it at all costs. Is Los Minions real or the consciousness of the protagonist (Victor) at war with himself? Nicely shot, with Madrid standing in for modernity in general, Los Minions de Midas is a metaphor for the moral choice of self preservation vs. duty to humanity, as well as a police procedural set against the fabulous textures of the uber wealthy. There’s never a right choice, especially not the higher ground. Intensely felt performances, and a refreshing visual escape, even if the moral ground turns out to be depressingly familiar.
