I also think the direction given to the actors was to speak as low and slow as they possibly could to match the slow cinematography. Try to hold facial expressions so the camera can linger. Dim the lights further.
Oh, also what a waste of the actor who played Christina. Instead of flash back scenes, she is a floating head that is always placed strategically near a fan.
