I realized that I’ve not left a review for this early 1970’s prison themed movie. I saw it for the first time on TV when I was a child and viewed it again many years later. If I remember correctly, it is a “made for TV” movie which were common back in the 70’s and 80’s (many of them were very good). This movie is in my opinion the best and most realistic prison movie that I’ve personally ever watched. It is dated (ie. slang) but still holds strong and is relevant for today. No over the top, gratuitous violence that you see in modern flicks dealing with incarceration, etc. It is very gritty and doesn’t glamorize prison life. Vic Morrow perfectly played the sociopathic “ring leader” who preys on other weaker individuals. You really start to hate his character as the movie progresses. A very young Alan Alda and Billy Dee Williams were great too. All the actors were excellent, even the minor roles. Just a warning, a few scenes are hard to watch, which kind of surprises me that it was broadcast on network TV back in the day (it definitely left a lasting impression). I just watched “Felon” with Val Kilmer (another good movie) and felt I needed to leave a review for an even better movie, “The Glass House”.
