Peter O'Toole was a gifted actor of exceptional range and in my opinion his portrayal of Lawrence should have won the academy award for best actor. I'm not sure what type of deliberations were occurring to give the award to Maximilian Schell over Peter O'Toole's performance. Maximilian's performance was good but Peter's was great and to think Peter never received an academy award demonstrates how the award process was and is not the best indication of what constitutes a superlative performance.
