I've played every single Animal Crossing game, (except pocket camp, bc mobile games are lame) and this still continues to be my favorite. It may not be as pretty as ACNH, but it more than makes up for it with the best soundtrack in the series, phenomenal art direction, great gameplay, and adorable characters. The vibes are immense. 11/10 would recommend.
Edit/Sidenote: I've also never played the Japanese installments, but I'm sure they are very great as well.
