Sure the action is decent, but the overall theme is so different than the original in a bad way, it didn't make up for it and just couldn't look pass all the messaging. The limited skill or inadequacy of this group compared to the invaders is laughable compared to that of the original. In 300, they worked as a well knit team, each having a particular purpose, in this one, 99% of them were needless pawns, easily killed off never to be thought of again. In Rise, there were only a few key hero characters on each side that mattered and had orders of magnitude greater fighting skill for some reason eventhough they all trained in the same respective societies. Additionally, the skill level of the women compared to the men who dedicated their lives to it, is simple propaganda. Not only are they not equal to men, they are badass and way better in strength and fighting skill, something that's not viewable in reality for this type of skill, taking all things into account. Even the blood was way over the top this time in comparison to reality and the "fun" level portrayed in 300 that it truly distracted from the scenes. More is not always better and this film reeked of over exaggerated attempts throughout.
