Overall fantastic addition to the series. Action packed, and plenty of details and references to previous films & even the video game really showed the attention to detail. Plenty of fan service to go around. The film does notably stumble however. A few plot holes, accented by editing clearly trying to cut down the films length. It mostly worked, but even at 2.5 hours, the plot still feels rushed. I had been concerned about how suited Hemsworth would be for the role, but he knocked it out of the park. My only real criticism is unfortunately with the title character. This just isn’t the Furiosa we know and love from Fury Road. You can boil most of it down to this. In fury road, Furiosa is a badass. It’s believable, you don’t question it for a second. In this Furiosa film, she is pretending she’s a badass. Cheesy glares at the camera, sullen silences, and attempts at a tough-guy strut feel like a hollow shadow of the actual badassery delivered by Charlize Theron in fury road. I love Anya Taylor Joy, but she unfortunately just couldn’t capture the character. May have been an issue of writing or direction, but an issue nonetheless. TL:DR - Great movie for fans of the series, though Taylor-Joy isn’t quite able to capture the character of Furiosa.

I really wanted to enjoy season 4. I think if you view it as its own independent show without comparing it to season 1 it helps a bit - but there’s just no comparison, this season doesn’t even hold a candle to S1. (Spoiler Free Review) Pros: * Very interesting setting, the long Alaskan night is a phenomenal atmosphere * The initial crime is enthralling and mysterious * Good basic framework for a narrative * Jodie Foster Cons: * Poorly written characters. Simply none of the characters were good. This is not the fault of the actors but rather the writers. It was impossible for any of them to deliver meaningful performances with what they were given. They really wasted Jodie Foster’s talents in the show, Danvers is a very one note, cardboard, generic hard-ass character. The characterization was just plain uninteresting, it took all Foster’s acting skills just to make this character even vaguely tolerable. You then have Navarro, who’s written as basically the exact same character as Danvers. These two also inexplicably hate eachother, which gets old quick. Danvers’ daughter is insufferable. There aren’t really any other characters notable enough to even mention. *Poorly written dialogue. You frequently find yourself questioning what kind of person would actually say the things the characters do. Even emotional scenes feel stiff and scripted. It’s just not believable. A lot of the interpersonal drama isn’t fully fleshed out, and ends up falling flat. The audience isn’t given a reason to care. *Numerous plot holes Night Country started to develop a bunch of interesting side narratives (and several uninteresting ones) and then just forgot about the majority of them. It’s like they ran out of time to actually finish the show, which is inexcusable for something with this budget. It’s like they couldn’t come up with satisfying explanations for the mysteries so they just left them. *Disappointing ending The ending was creative, and definitely could have been good - but it just didn’t fit. The narrative simply had not been set up to accommodate that ending, and just introduces more plot holes. It forces post-characterization that it hadn’t taken the time to develop. It makes an otherwise interesting idea feel cheap and hollow. Ends up as a “gotcha” that leaves you feeling cheated. Overall giving this 3 stars was generous. Respect for the actors is the only thing keeping this above 2 stars. TLDR: lots of potential, but poor writing and plot holes hold it back
